Creek adventure with son

Today I went to a nearby creek that feeds into White Rock Lake with my youngest son. In spite of falling in the water and mud several times, we had an awesome time. I think we started by the Fernald street bridge and walked the creek to the Easton street bridge.

We found several large clam fossils embedded in the rocks. We brought a net and caught a pretty big turtle, a beautifully colored perch, a minnow of some sort, and a small catfish.  Although there was some whining we eventually released all the animals we caught back into the water =) We also saw lots of bugs including a fantastic bright green Tiger Beetle.  Nothing like a field trip to teach the kids about nature.
