Weird generative accidental creature

I am working on print resolution versions of flowers from my “Flowers with Tendrils” video and generated this thing completely by accident. It was too weird and interesting not to save and share. It was done in my particle painting system that I am still tweaking in openframeworks.

Excellent generative painting by percolator creator John Balestrieri based on some retro images. From Flickr.

Balestrieri writes on Flickr… ”I commissioned some retro images for use with Percolator 2.0 and its website (www.percolatorapp.com/) by photographer Alex Galushkoff (www.retroatelier.com/). The image that I used for this auto-painting is shown below in the comments, as it appears when processed by Percolator.

Now that 2.0 has shipped, I have some time to play with my automated painting software (“Painty”) again. The image above is painted from the same source image I used below.

Interestingly, the horizontal and vertical streaks were caused by the painting software being sensitive to JPEG artifacts in the small version of the photo I used.”
