What is a live PA in the context of electronic music?
A live Pa is when an electronic artist lugs out the keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines, laptops,
mics and performs their music live. Live Pa's are not DJs! They are producers of electronic music or bands
who are set up to perform live. Some of them also Dj and spin their own dub plates but thats another
story. So when a producer is doing a live pa don't ask them to spin your favorite record, they might
smash a keyboard on your head.
The Sub Tronic Theatre was devised some time ago
over many drinks at the Elm Street Bar in Deep Ellum by Tony Edwards
(BMG Records), Don Relyea(Ropelab,
Jump Rope Girls,
evilcomputergenius), and Bobby Maloney
(Ropelab, Jump Rope Girls, Ida Ten) to showcase these live performers and help them polish their acts.
The three had noticed that there was a great deal of untapped live electronic talent in the Dallas Area
and that these artists really had nowhere to play live. After some time Nina and Kim of
Real Time Syndicate joined the boys in their efforts to nurture the local scene!
