Wolf Spider – Rhabidosa rabida (Araneae: Lycosidae)

A big Wolf Spider (Rhabidosa rabida) in my front yard
Wolf Spider – Rhabidosa rabida (Araneae: Lycosidae)

While trimming the ivy and vines in the front yard I disturbed this large Wolf Spider and it popped out of the leaves and started running around. I found several while trimming but this one was the biggest at nearly 3 inches.

It’s not a surprise if you see a wolf spider on your vines since one of their favorite habitats is gardens. About their size, they can grow up to 25 mm in length. You can see more pictures and info about wolf spiders here (just to be sure that the one you saw was really a wolf spider): http://www.wolfspider.org/
