Lichty weighs in on the careers of aging new media artists

Patrick Lichty writes an interesting essay on the career path of the later stage new media artist on post.thing.net.

As I approach the big four zero here in a year or so this topic has been in the back of my mind as well. Although part of my master plan is to move back towards more traditional media before I become to senile to to continue coding, it is entertaining to see other perspectives on what to do when you reach a point in your career where you can no longer keep up with the new generation of whiz kids.

In the corporate sector that is basically how and why people become middle and senior managers, and that in essence is what Lichty proposes. The senior new media artist transforms into organizer and team leader, managing teams to create larger works. I think his suggestion makes a lot of sense.
