Algorithmic Geometric Art

Space Filling Curve Abstract Geometric Art
This series is a collection of modified space filling algorithms that generate abstract geometric art.

A modified Hilbert curve is the first subject of this group of work and the series will be available as limited edition giclee prints very soon. The project page includes some source functions and background info on the Hilbert "space filling" curve.

Ugly: Pat Robertson
Algorithmic art
I have added the Pat Roberson to the Ugly category of the Good the Bad, and the Ugly series of algorithmic pixel portraits.

I have been waiting for someone to do something stupid enough to get added to the Ugly category. I had considered adding Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes but then the whole movie pre-marketing romance hype thing made feel icky, so I decided to pass on it all together.

But alas I could count on good ole Rev. Pat Robertson to open his mouth and utter something nutty. As you are probably aware he called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, elected leader of Venezuela. Since when did preachers start calling for assassinations? Did someone not read the part about"thou shalt not kill".

Eradicate mp3

Eradicate(Exterminate ext. mix)(8.2mb)

Eradicate(4.6mb)
Prodigy-esque old school breaks inspired track featuring thick guitar chord stabs and samples from the old Dr. Who science fiction show. This song has really low bass drops.

L-System Drawing Prototype
The L-System Drawing Prototype(click to launch shockwave) makes a simulated vine with flowers that grows while you watch. This is really just a prototype, I plan to release this later as a more polished abstract art drawing engine. But it is pretty cool as it is.

RTCAG exe beta1
If anyone is bored and wants to fiddle with the new improved Real Time Contextual Art Generator in exe form, I just posted a beta of it with all the controls in the file menu area, you can save jpgs resize the screen etc.

Zip of Beta is here: RTCAG.zip(2.5mb)

If you play with it please email me with subject line "RTCAG" to say "Hey it worked great" or "I tried to do this and it did not work" and so on. Also it unzips with an image.gif, try deleting that file and let me know if it still works ok. Program icon shows up ok? Saving images works etc. Its intuitive or not, needs more help text an so on.

The Real Time Contextual Art Generator generates art from user entered queries.
Thanks,
Don

Nuclear Winter
Nuclear Winter (Noise Mix) (7.6mb)  New mp3 release. Thick noise, feedback and heavy riffs mix to create a dark apocalyptic vibe. Giant lumbering beats and 440 drops beat your head senseless while radiation cooks you from the inside out.

2d lsystem drawing engine
lsystem art
I have been fiddling around with a modified 2d L-system (Lindenmayer system) drawing engine for the purpose of drawing organically inspired images and animated screensavers. I am pretty far along with it after only a few hours of twiddling.

I have also implemented a resource manager in this engine so that if it tries to split off too many times the manager won't let it branch any more times than there are available resources.

The primary node of the system is a complex curve and the sub nodes are currently lines. Right now the manager only lets the branches get about 3 deep at any time off the main curve. These settings result in a seemingly endless growing vine with flowers added at the end of the branches for added realism at a glance. Its not quite there yet but it is getting close, I need to add leaves, make better more varied flowers and set it so the manager allows for more branches.

I plan to release this as a screensaver and possible in giclee print form later this year.

Cute Ryan Picture

Ryan is such a handsome little man at 2.5 months. He is very expressive and interacts with us frequently already. He watches what we say and tries to emulate. Although he has little control of his mouth he will coo and can copy simple sounds like "ah" and "aga".

Assault Crucifix I

The Assault Crucifix Series : Algorithmically generated religious iconography for the conflict generation. Symmetry and color reveal the hidden beauty in instruments of war. The crucifix is generated algorithmically by placing colored alpha channel fills of assault rifles in strategic regions on the screen.

This project was originally inspired by the works of brilliant Byzantine era Italian artists done from around 1200 A.D. to around 1500 A.D. such as Giunta Pisano and Pietro di Francesco Orioli(above left and center). It was in 1994, I had just been to an exhibit and spent some time in the European painters section and was inspired to create a digital iconic piece (above right). I decided to revisit this idea now in 2005. It just seems like an appropriate time for a conflict and religion remix considering all the conflict in the world today, especially the altercations caused by the clashes between radical Islam, liberal western culture and Christendom that can be traced back to the sacking of Jerusalem and the Crusades.

Growing like weeds

The Kids are growing like weeds. Sophie is potty training and doing well, she is talking and she likes bugs, bulldozers and firetrucks. Ryan is cooing and generally happy now except when he is supposed to be sleeping. He still has a little colic but he is getting much better.
