Mon, 16 Apr 2007 In the Mod by Dr. Woohoo aka Drew Trujillo From Dr. Woohoo's blog..... ALBUQUERQUE, NM – April 9, 2007 – Dr. Woohoo today announced that In The Mod (ITM) – his site celebrating color and dedicated to analyzing, visualizing and sharing color palettes – now enables users to download color palettes from (in)famous paintings as Adobe Swatch Exchange files (.ASE). This format allows designers to use the color palettes in Adobe’s Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive CS2 and CS3 applications. This is significant because prior to this release only Flash, Processing and After Effects developers could take advantage of the large database of color palettes on ITM from master painters like Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Josef Albers to contemporaries like Jared Tarbell, CES Reas, Ben Fry, James Paterson, Aaron Nather, Jeff Soto, Daniel Martin Diaz, Nicholas Deakin, Gary Taxali and more. Designers can now download the ITM color palettes to Load into, and/or Replace, their existing Swatches. No coding is necessary. The goal of ITM is to educate the public by deconstructing a painting into its color palette and then presents relationships between a single artist’s painting and across all paintings in the database. The process uses Woohoo’s Color Analytic algorithms that run a statistical analysis to find the most popular colors and reduce the palettes to a manageable number. In The Mod is available at: InTheMod.com ( ITM requires Flash 8 ) Dr. Woohoo (translation: Serious Fun), is a New Mexico based artist, designer and developer creating work for a wide range of collectors and clients. Working with digital media since 1993, Woohoo’s artwork is available at: DrWoohoo.com. In an earlier post he writes..... After two years of spending the majority of my time developing brushes.paints.stencils. and In The Mod, it’s finally time for me to begin creating. My second series of paintings this year, Artwork for the MoCo (Modern Contemporary) Homes, is currently included: Inspired by Modern and Contemporary homes, including the incredible work by the architect Jon Anderson as well as the great site MoCo Loco, Dr. Woohoo created these archival prints with a style and color palettes that compliment the sophisticated interiors of these beautiful homes. Dr. Woohoo creates art that coalesces the intelligence of algorithms with the creative expressiveness of natural media. Woohoo’s Color Analytic algorithms analyze the color palettes from his photographs & Photoshop CS3 compositions in MatLab, organizing the colors based on their frequency distribution (frequency, relative frequency, etc.) and central tendencies (mode, median, weighted mean, etc.). This information helps determine the size and color of each brush stroke. A data visualization algorithm determines the location of the brush stroke based on a 2-dimensional HSV color space, where the hue determines the x-location and the saturation and brightness collectively determine the y-location. All of this information is then used by the MatLab painting machines which then ‘paint’ the shapes directly in Photoshop CS3. |
